Change Machine – Customer Only Receives $1

Sometimes the change machine will dispense only $1 even if a customer has given $5, $10 or $20.

The reason this happens is because a previous customer or possibly a child has inserted either 1, 2 or 3 quarters.

The machine is expecting that the next positive event will be the remaining quarter and it will dispense $1 only.

Unfortunately the changer machine is not programmed in a way to know how to properly handle this not-so-rare occurence.

How to Handle the Upset Customer

The customer will usually become irate after this scenario and can you blame them?

It is important to insure them that you will make things right.

Politely ask them to wait a moment while you go to the back office and inspect the machine.

While in the back office you can use the surveillance camera to ensure that the customer indeed lost money in the changer.

This is very important because there are a number of dishonest people who will attempt to trick you into giving them free money. It has unfortunately happened many times aleady.

As soon as you have verified that the customer indeed lost money you can then refund them from your float.

Make sure to indicate that your payout to the customer on both your notes and under the Guest account in Cleancloud with a note on the order created.
